ProperConvert App Review: Pricing, Formats and Alternatives

How much does ProperConvert cost?

ProperConvert costs $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year for one user on one device. A Team license covering three users or devices is $49.98 a month or $449.97 a year, and there is a quoted Enterprise tier above that. Every plan includes all of the converters and formats, unlimited pages and statements, and free updates, so the tiers differ by seat count rather than by capability.

Prices below were read from the ProperSoft purchase page on 6 September 2026. Software pricing in this market moves, so confirm the tier on their checkout before you pay.

The yearly saving is real but modest. Twelve months of the $19.99 plan is $239.88, so the $179.99 annual license saves just under $60. ProperSoft sells through several checkouts depending on where you are, including ThriveCart and Stripe, Paddle, FastSpring and PayPro Global, and offers a 14 day money back guarantee. On a recurring plan, only the first order qualifies for that refund.

What happened to Bank2QBO, PDF2QBO and CSV2OFX?

ProperSoft used to sell around a dozen single purpose converters, each named after the conversion it performed. Those products no longer exist. They were folded into one app, and ProperSoft says so in their own documentation, describing ProperConvert as having replaced legacy PDF2OFX. Every one of the old product pages now returns a 404.

If you are searching for one of these names because you want to buy or reinstall it, this is the mapping. The conversion you used still exists, but it is now a setting inside ProperConvert rather than a separate purchase.

The practical effect is that the pricing changed shape. Buying a single converter used to be a one time purchase of one conversion path. Today one subscription covers every path at once, which is better value if you convert into more than one format and worse value if you only ever needed one and expected to pay once.

Note that MoneyThumb also sold a product called PDF2QBO, and it has been retired too. Their PDF2QBO replacement options are covered separately, because the two vendors ended up in very different places.

What formats does ProperConvert convert?

This is where ProperConvert is genuinely strong. It reads far more input formats than a browser based converter typically does, including formats that are not statements at all but exports from other finance apps.

Two of those outputs are worth calling out because most cloud converters, this one included, do not offer them. QFX and QIF export matter if you use Quicken. Quicken cannot import an OFX file into a bank account, and a genuine QFX carries a bank issued identifier that a third party cannot mint, so your realistic Quicken routes are a QFX from an authorized vendor or a CSV import. Is ProperConvert free?

No. ProperConvert is paid software with a free trial, and the trial is deliberately narrow: it converts up to 10 transactions per file. You can open a statement and preview every transaction the parser found, which is the part that actually matters for evaluation, but the file you export will stop at ten rows. Most real bank statements run well past that, so the trial proves the parser reads your bank correctly and proves your accounting software accepts the file, and nothing beyond that.

Use it accordingly. Load the messiest statement you have, not a clean one from a major bank, and check the preview line by line. A converter that handles Chase perfectly can still fail on a small regional bank or a scanned page.

Is ProperConvert safe?

ProperConvert processes files entirely on your own machine. ProperSoft states that your bank statements are never uploaded to the internet, and the app is distributed as code signed software for Windows and macOS. For anyone handling client financial data under a policy that restricts uploading it to third party servers, that is a real and checkable advantage over every cloud converter, ours included.

The trade off is the one every desktop app carries. You install and update software on each machine, the license is tied to one computer or remote terminal, and you cannot use it from a device you are not allowed to install software on.

ProperConvert vs OFXStatement

These two tools solve overlapping problems in opposite ways. ProperConvert is an installed application that does a great deal and asks you to manage it. OFXStatement runs in a browser tab and does less, faster. Here is the comparison with nothing hidden.

Where ProperConvert is the better buy

We would rather say this plainly than have you discover it after paying us.

• You need QFX or QIF. We do not export either format. If your destination is Quicken and you want a file that matches against existing transactions, ProperConvert can produce it and we cannot.
• Your statements cannot leave your computer. Local processing is a policy answer, not a feature comparison. If that is your constraint, the decision is already made.
• You convert very high volumes. Unlimited pages at $19.99 a month beats a page allowance once you are consistently past a few thousand pages.
• Your input is not a PDF. We read PDFs, scans and photos. If you are starting from a CSV, an Excel file, a QIF or an MT940, ProperConvert reads all of them and we read none of them.
• You need three seats. Their Team plan covers three devices. Both of our plans are single seat, which is a genuine weakness for us against ProperConvert, DocuClipper and AutoEntry alike.

Where a browser converter wins

• Nothing to install. Locked down work laptops, Chromebooks, a borrowed machine, a phone at a client site: all fine. ProperConvert needs Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 10.13 or newer, and admin rights to install.
• No per device license. Working from an office desktop on Tuesday and a laptop on Wednesday is friction on a one device license.
• A trial you can actually finish a job with. Fifteen pages converts real statements end to end. Ten transactions per file does not.
• Batch uploads. Fifty files in one go on the Plus plan, which is the difference between an afternoon and a coffee break when you are rebuilding a year of books.

Who should buy ProperConvert

Buy it if you are a Windows or Mac bookkeeper who converts a lot, needs Quicken formats or unusual inputs, and wants the data to stay on your own disk. At $19.99 a month with no page ceiling it is priced well for that person, and it is cheaper than most cloud converters once your volume is serious.

Skip it if you work across machines, cannot install software, only ever start from PDF statements, or want to convert a statement in the next two minutes without a download, an installer and a registration code.
