About OFXStatement

OFXStatement is a United States focused bank statement converter. It reads PDF, scanned, and photographed bank and credit card statements and returns each transaction as structured data with its date, description, amount, and running balance, exported as OFX, CSV, or Excel. It does not produce QFX or QIF files, and it does not accept CSV or Excel as input. Support is at support@ofxstatement.com.

Why this product exists

Accounting software connects to a bank and pulls recent activity. It does not solve the far more common problem of a folder of statements covering a period the feed will never reach.

Bank Feeds Have a Short Memory

Most feeds pull a limited recent window, commonly around 90 days. Statements go back years, so anything historical falls outside what a connection can provide.

Statements Are Built for Reading, Not Parsing

A PDF statement has no table underneath it. Columns are visual positions and descriptions wrap, so copy and paste produces something slower to clean than to retype.

Archived Statements Are Images

The further back a period goes, the more likely the statement is a scan or a photograph, which rules out copying text entirely.

Volume Is the Whole Cost

Four accounts across fourteen months is more than fifty documents. At that point per document handling time is the entire economics of the engagement.

What we focus on

A narrow product done properly: get transactions out of statement documents accurately, and hand you a file the destination system will actually accept.

Documents, Including Scans

PDF, JPG, PNG, BMP, HEIC, TIFF and TXT up to 50 MB per file, because real archives are full of scans and phone photos rather than clean downloads.

Balances That Tie

Every row keeps date, description, amount and running balance, so an extracted month can be checked against the printed statement before anyone imports it.

Formats That Import

OFX when the file must not duplicate on reimport, CSV and Excel when the data needs review first.

Honest Limits

No QFX, no QIF, and no CSV input. We would rather lose a signup than have someone discover a missing format after they have paid.

How people usually start

The free tier exists so you can test your own statements, which are the only ones that matter.

1

Test your own statement

Use the free tier to run a real statement from your own bank rather than a sample. Bank layouts vary and yours is the one that counts.

Tip: 3 extractions, no credit card required.

2

Check the totals

Compare the extracted transaction count and totals against the summary printed on the statement.

Tip: If the totals tie, the detail almost always ties.

3

Confirm the export fits

Export the format your destination actually accepts and try the import before committing to a plan.

Tip: Quicken users should read the CSV route first, since Quicken cannot import OFX.

4

Scale up if it fits

Paid plans add volume, and Plus adds batch uploads of up to 50 files, merging and custom templates.

Tip: Work out the billing unit before comparing headline prices.

Who uses it

Concentrated in US accounting and finance work where document volume is the constraint.

Bookkeepers

Monthly client processing across several banks and card issuers, where handling time per document sets the margin on the engagement.

CPAs and Tax Preparers

Rebuilding a period from statements when the books are incomplete and a return cannot be prepared without the transactions.

Business Owners

Catching up their own books before a filing deadline, a loan application, or handing over to a bookkeeper.

Platforms Using the API

Firms and products that already receive client documents and want extracted transactions inside their own system.

What OFXStatement is

OFXStatement is a bank statement converter built for United States accounting work. You upload a bank or credit card statement as a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo, and it returns the transactions as structured data: date, description, amount, and running balance. Those transactions can be exported as OFX, CSV, or Excel for QuickBooks Online, Xero and other software that reads them.

The product exists for a narrow, specific reason. Bank feeds in accounting software usually reach back only a short window, commonly around 90 days, while statements go back years. Anyone rebuilding a period, onboarding a client, or closing books that fell behind ends up with a folder of PDFs and no way to get them into their accounting system except by typing. That gap is the whole job this tool does.

Who it is for

Mostly bookkeepers, accounting firms, CPAs, and finance teams in the United States, plus business owners catching up their own books. The common situation is document volume: several accounts, several months, and a destination system that needs transactions rather than a PDF. It is also used through an API by firms and platforms that already receive client documents and want the extracted data to land in their own system.

It is less useful for a one off question about a single transaction, and it is not a personal finance app. If you need to read one line off one statement, opening the PDF is faster than any tool.

What it can and cannot do

Being direct about the limits saves people a wasted trial, so here they are in full.

How we think about accuracy

Extraction removes the typing. It does not remove the review, and any vendor claiming otherwise is overselling. On a text based PDF the characters already exist in the file, so the task is interpreting the layout and accuracy is high. On a scan or a phone photo the characters have to be recognized first, and that is where mistakes appear, usually in digits that look alike or a minus sign sitting close to a column edge.

The workflow we recommend takes about a minute per statement: compare the extracted transaction count and the total deposits and withdrawals against the summary the bank prints on the statement. If those tie, the detail almost always ties. We would rather tell you to check than promise a number that does not survive contact with a bad scan.

How your documents are handled

Uploads are transmitted over encrypted connections, and you can delete uploaded documents and extraction data from your account at any time. Bank statements are sensitive by nature, and the practical advice we give firms is the same we follow: delete what you no longer need, and keep client documents inside whatever retention policy your practice already has rather than leaving them in a tool indefinitely. Full detail is in the privacy policy and the terms of service.

Pricing, briefly

There is a free tier of 3 extractions with no credit card, which exists so you can test your own statements before paying. Paid plans start at $49 per month for Starter, or $24.50 per month billed annually at $294 per year. Plus is $149 per month, or $74.50 per month billed annually at $894 per year, and adds bulk upload of up to 50 files, custom extraction templates, categorization and Financial Reports. Pro and Enterprise sit above that. Current detail is always on the pricing page.

We think the most useful thing a buyer can do before choosing any tool in this category is work out what unit it bills. Some meter per page, some per conversion regardless of length, and some per credit where a statement page costs several credits. The same workload can differ several fold depending on which model you land on. Our honest comparison against DocuClipper, MoneyThumb and AutoEntry, including where they beat us, is on the bank statement converter comparison page.

Contact

Support is at support@ofxstatement.com, and the contact page covers what to include so a statement problem can be diagnosed on the first reply. If a specific statement will not extract cleanly, sending it in is genuinely the fastest route, because layout problems are usually fixable once seen.

About OFXStatement: Common Questions

It converts bank and credit card statements into structured transaction data. You upload a PDF, scan, or photo of a statement, and it returns each transaction with its date, description, amount, and running balance, which you can export as OFX, CSV, or Excel.

No. A genuine QFX, also called Quicken Web Connect, carries a bank issued INTU.BID identifier that no third party is able to create, so a renamed OFX file will always be rejected by Quicken. Since Quicken also cannot import OFX, the working route into Quicken is CSV via File then File Import then Banking Transactions.

Yes. The free tier gives 3 extractions with no credit card required, which is there so you can test your own bank statements before paying. Paid plans start at $49 per month, or $24.50 per month when billed annually at $294 per year.

Documents are transmitted over encrypted connections and you can delete uploaded documents and extraction data from your account at any time. The privacy policy sets out collection, use, and retention in full. Our practical advice is to delete what you no longer need and keep client documents within your own practice retention policy.

Email support@ofxstatement.com. If the question is about a statement that did not extract correctly, attaching the file makes it far quicker to diagnose, because layout problems are usually clear and fixable once the document has been seen.

It reads statements by interpreting the layout of the page rather than matching a saved template for each institution, so it is not limited to a fixed list and a bank redesigning its statement does not break it. US banks and credit card issuers are the focus, including regional banks and credit unions.
