TL;DR: PDF2OFX is discontinued. Two different companies sold a converter under that name and both have retired it. ProperSoft folded its PDF2OFX, Bank2OFX and CSV2OFX into a single app called ProperConvert, and all three product pages now return 404. MoneyThumb retired its pdf2ofx Convert and now sells Convert2OFX Online instead, though its old help documentation is still live and still turns up in search. Neither company sells anything called PDF2OFX today, so every download mirror still offering it is distributing software you cannot license.

Is PDF2OFX discontinued?

Yes, at both vendors. We checked every product URL on 9 September 2026 rather than relying on anyone else's summary, because this is the kind of fact that review sites copy from each other for years after it stops being true.

ProperSoft is explicit about it in their own documentation, where they describe ProperConvert as having replaced legacy PDF2OFX. That is their wording, not ours. The same consolidation took out around a dozen of their single purpose apps at once, including Bank2QBO, PDF2QBO, CSV2QIF and PDF2CSV. We mapped the full list in our ProperConvert review.

MoneyThumb went a different way. Rather than merging desktop apps, it retired the desktop line and moved to online subscriptions. The detail that catches people out is that moneythumb.com/pdf2ofx-convert-help/ still returns a working page. It is documentation for a product that is no longer for sale, and because it is a real page on a real vendor domain it keeps ranking, which sends buyers to a dead end.

Is it safe to download PDF2OFX from those mirror sites?

We would not. Search for a PDF2OFX download today and most of the first page is aggregator sites rather than either vendor: download82, software.informer, updatestar, apponic and soft112 all still host listings. Those pages advertise version numbers that no longer correspond to anything either company supports.

The problem is not just that the installer is stale. Financial converters handle bank statements, so you are being asked to run an unsigned, unsupported binary from a third party mirror against your own account data, with no security updates and no working license server behind it. If you want the software the name now refers to, get it from the vendor that owns it. If you want a converter you can use in the next two minutes, you do not need an installer at all.

What replaced PDF2OFX, and what does it cost?

Three realistic options, with prices read from each vendor's own store on 9 September 2026. We do not republish a competitor figure we have not seen on that competitor's own site, because the numbers circulating for retired products in this market are frequently years out of date.

ReplacementWhat you payWhat the price buysUnit
ProperConvert (ProperSoft)$19.99 per month or $179.99 per yearUnlimited pages and statements, one user on one deviceFlat subscription
ProperConvert Team$49.98 per month or $449.97 per yearThree users or devicesFlat subscription
MoneyThumb Convert2OFX Online$24.95 per month for 5 conversionsCheapest monthly entry, seats are free and unlimitedOne statement month
MoneyThumb Convert2OFX Online$124.95 per year for 25 conversionsTheir worst value per conversion, about $5.00 eachOne statement month
MoneyThumb Convert2OFX Online$799.95 per year for 800 conversionsTheir best value per conversion, about $1.00 eachOne statement month
OFXStatement$49 per month, or $24.50 per month billed annually2,500 pages a month, OFX, CSV and ExcelPage

The two paid models are not comparable on headline price, and this is where most buyers get the arithmetic wrong. MoneyThumb bills per conversion, and it defines one conversion as one monthly statement, regardless of how many pages that statement runs to. It also states that if it detects a multi month PDF it splits the file by month and charges one conversion per month covered. So a single PDF containing a year of history is twelve conversions, not one.

That cuts both ways. If your statements are long, per statement billing is excellent value, because a 40 page statement costs the same as a 3 page one. If you process a lot of short statements, or you routinely open year long exports, it gets expensive quickly. Also note the spread inside MoneyThumb's own dropdown: the 25 conversion annual plan works out at about $5.00 per conversion while the 800 conversion plan is about $1.00, so the small annual plan is the worst value they sell. Their full ladder is broken down in our MoneyThumb pricing breakdown.

ProperConvert is flat and unlimited, which makes it the cheapest option at genuinely high volume, with two caveats worth knowing before you pay: a license covers one person on one device, and the trial converts only 10 transactions per file, so you can confirm the parser reads your bank but you cannot finish a real statement on it.

Will an OFX file actually import into my accounting software?

Check this before you buy anything, because OFX is not universally accepted and the exceptions are the expensive kind to discover late.

DestinationDoes it import OFX?What to send instead
XeroYes, and Xero recommends OFXNothing, OFX is the preferred file
QuickBooks OnlineYes, up to about 1,000 lines and 350 KB per fileSplit long statements
QuickBooks DesktopNo. Web Connect reads QBO onlyA QBO file
QuickenNo. Quicken cannot import OFX into an accountA bank issued QFX, or a CSV import
YNABYes, alongside QFX, QIF and CSVCSV is the format YNAB recommends
NetSuiteYes, along with QFX, CSV, BAI2 and CAMTNothing, OFX works

The one that surprises people most is Quicken. Quicken cannot import an OFX file into an account at all. Quicken wants QFX, and a genuine QFX carries a bank issued identifier that no third party can mint, which is why renaming a .ofx file to .qfx always fails. If Quicken is your destination, your realistic routes are a QFX from your bank or an authorized vendor, or a CSV import through File, then File Import, then Banking Transactions. Be aware that a Quicken CSV import does not match against existing transactions the way a QFX does, so it is easy to duplicate a period.

The other one worth planning around is QuickBooks Desktop, which reads QBO through Web Connect and will not take an OFX file. If that is where your data is going, skip OFX entirely and convert the PDF straight to a QBO file instead of converting twice.

How do I convert a PDF bank statement to OFX now?

The workflow that replaced the old desktop apps is simply a browser upload. Nothing to install, no license key tied to one machine, and no mirror site involved.

  1. Upload the PDF statement. Scans and phone photos work too, since the text is read with OCR.
  2. Check the extracted transaction table on screen: dates, descriptions, amounts and running balance.
  3. Export as OFX, or as CSV or Excel if your destination prefers those.
  4. Import the file into Xero, QuickBooks Online, YNAB or NetSuite.

Test accuracy on your worst document rather than your cleanest one. Any converter handles a Chase PDF. What separates them is a scanned page from a small regional bank, or a statement with the balance column split across a page break. Our free tier converts 15 pages, which is enough to run a real statement end to end and confirm the file imports before you pay anything.

Which converter should you actually buy?

Buy ProperConvert if you need to work offline, your firm's policy forbids uploading client statements to a third party server, or you need QFX and QIF output that browser converters generally do not offer. Buy MoneyThumb if your statements are long and your monthly count is low, because per statement billing rewards exactly that shape of work. Use a page priced browser converter if you move between machines, cannot install software, or want to convert something today without a download and a registration code.

If you are comparing more than these three, our bank statement converter comparison puts the main tools side by side, and it is worth reading alongside what the quote only platforms cost, since several vendors in this market will not show you a price at all. When you are ready to try it, the PDF to OFX converter at the top of this page is the same tool.
