A Citibank PDF statement converts to OFX in three steps: download it under Statements in Citi Online, upload it here, and export OFX, CSV or Excel. Citi makes the past 12 months available at once and keeps statements reachable online for up to seven years, but older months must be requested first and take a couple of days to arrive.

Getting older Citi statements before you convert them

Citi splits its archive in two. Recent statements sit ready to download. Anything older lives behind an Older Statements request form where you pick the year and month, submit, and come back later. Citi's own guide says requests can take 48 to 72 hours, and a fulfilled statement stays downloadable for only seven days.

For a bookkeeper rebuilding two or three years, that means planning. Request every month you need in one sitting, put a reminder on the calendar for three days out, save all the ready files in one pass, then run them through the converter together. Miss the seven-day window and the request starts over.

The export list is OFX, CSV, Excel and JSON. There is no QFX or QBO, because those formats only import when they carry an ID issued by the bank itself. Quicken users take the CSV route described on the Quicken bank statement converter page; Xero users can follow the Xero bank statement converter steps with the OFX.

Inside the OFX built from a Citi statement

The output is OFX version 102 in SGML, the dialect older desktop programs and current cloud ledgers both read. Each statement line becomes a transaction with a posting date, a signed amount and a type. Checks are typed CHECK and carry their number. The payee field holds the first 32 characters of the description, the limit set by the OFX standard, while the memo keeps the full wording.

Every transaction also gets a FITID built from its date, amount, description and position on the statement. Because the ID comes out the same each time, importing a corrected file over an earlier one does not create duplicates. The closing balance goes in only when the Citi statement prints it.

Citibank statement conversion questions

How do I get old Citibank statements?

Sign on to Citi Online, open Statements and use the Older Statements request: choose the year and month and submit. Citi says requests take 48 to 72 hours, and the ready statement can be downloaded for seven days, so save it promptly.

Can I convert a Citibank statement to Excel or CSV?

Yes. Each conversion produces Excel and CSV as well as OFX, with date, description, amount and check number split into columns. You can download all three from the same job at no extra page cost.

Does it read Citi credit card statements too?

Yes. Card statements convert with purchases as debits and payments and credits as positive amounts, so the OFX balances against the statement. Long card statements above 25 pages need the Plus plan.

Can I import a Citibank PDF into QuickBooks?

Not directly, since QuickBooks does not read PDFs. Convert the statement first, then upload the CSV or OFX in QuickBooks Online under Banking. QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect only accepts QBO files issued by the bank.

Is it safe to upload Citibank statements?

You never share your Citi credentials; you upload files you downloaded. Statements are kept in your account until you delete them and are not used to train AI models.
