To get a Bank of America statement into accounting software as OFX, save the PDF from Statements and Documents, upload it here and export OFX (or CSV for Quicken and QuickBooks Online). Online Banking shows the last 18 months; anything up to seven years old can be ordered from the bank as an electronic copy and converted the same way.

The 18-month window and what sits behind it

Bank of America lets you view, print and download about a year and a half of statements yourself. Its paperless FAQ also says the bank keeps statement copies for up to seven years, and that copies older than the online window can be ordered online at no charge and delivered electronically. Paper copies by mail usually take 7 to 10 business days.

That gap is where most conversion jobs come from. A tax preparer asked for three years of deposits, a bookkeeper picking up a client who never connected a feed, a divorce attorney tracing a joint account: all of them end up holding a stack of ordered PDFs with no matching download file. Those PDFs read here exactly like the monthly ones.

Where each Bank of America statement comes from

Summarized from the bank's paperless statements FAQ.

Statement age How you get the PDF
Last 18 monthsDownload it yourself in Online Banking, check images included
18 months to 7 yearsOrder an electronic copy online, no charge listed
Any age, on paperOrder by mail, about 7 to 10 business days
Older than 7 yearsBeyond the bank's stated retention; only your own saved copy

Printed paper statements can be photographed or scanned and uploaded as images; the converter reads JPG, PNG, TIFF and HEIC as well as PDF.

Who converts Bank of America statements and what they export

Bookkeepers and CPA firms

Catch-up work for clients whose prior years exist only as PDFs. OFX goes straight into Xero, NetSuite or Sage; CSV into QuickBooks Online.

Quicken and Moneydance households

Filling the months before a bank connection started, or after it dropped. Moneydance reads the OFX; Quicken takes the CSV.

Mortgage and SBA loan files

Underwriters and brokers who want two to twelve months of deposits as a sortable Excel sheet instead of reading PDFs line by line.

Attorneys and examiners

Divorce, probate and fraud matters where years of ordered statements need to become one searchable spreadsheet.

How a Bank of America posting is written into OFX

The file follows OFX 1.0.2, the SGML version that Xero, Moneydance, GnuCash and Microsoft Money all accept. Each line of the statement becomes one STMTTRN block.

Statement field Written as Why it matters on import
DateDTPOSTED, YYYYMMDDPuts every row in the right period when you reconcile a month
Deposit or withdrawal amountTRNAMT with sign, TRNTYPE CREDIT or DEBITDebits arrive negative, so totals tie to the statement summary
Check number from the checks sectionTRNTYPE CHECK plus CHECKNUMOutstanding checks clear by number instead of by guesswork
DescriptionNAME (32 characters) and MEMO (full)Long Zelle and card descriptions are not lost to the NAME limit
No printed equivalentFITID from date, amount, text and row orderRe-importing the same statement is recognized, not doubled
Ending balanceLEDGERBALIncluded only when the statement prints one, never invented

One caution for Quicken users: Quicken only imports OFX-family files that carry a bank's own sign-on ID, which no third-party converter can supply honestly. Use the CSV export with the Quicken bank statement converter instructions, and keep the OFX for everything else.

How to convert a Bank of America statement to OFX

1

Collect the PDFs

In Online Banking open Statements and Documents, pick the account and save each month. For older months, place the copy order first and save the files when they arrive.

2

Upload in one go

Add the whole set to the converter. Starter takes statements up to 25 pages; Plus has no page cap and accepts 50 files per batch.

3

Tie out the totals

Compare extracted deposits and withdrawals with the account summary on page one. A mismatch points to the exact month to look at.

4

Export and import

OFX for Xero, NetSuite, Moneydance or GnuCash. CSV for QuickBooks Online and Quicken. Excel for workpapers and loan files.

Rebuilding several years for one client is a batch job. The bulk bank statement converter handles the whole folder in a single run and merges the months into one file per account.

What converting Bank of America statements costs

Billing is per page, not per statement or per account. A typical personal checking statement runs four to eight pages, so seven years of one account is roughly 350 to 700 pages.

Plan Price Pages per month Fits
Demo$015 in total, 5 per file, watermarkedChecking that one statement imports cleanly
Starter$49 monthly or $294 a year3,000, statements up to 25 pagesA household archive or a few client catch-ups a month
Plus$149 monthly or $894 a year12,000, any statement lengthFirms, Business Advantage accounts with long statements, API use

Plans are single-user. The full feature list is on the pricing page.

Questions about converting Bank of America statements

How far back can I download Bank of America statements?

About 18 months in Online Banking. The bank says it keeps statement copies for up to seven years, and older ones can be ordered online and sent electronically. Once you have those PDFs, they convert to OFX, CSV or Excel like any recent month.

Can I convert a Bank of America statement to Excel?

Yes. The same conversion gives you an Excel workbook and a CSV next to the OFX, with date, description, amount and check number in their own columns. Choosing a different format does not cost extra pages.

Does it work with Bank of America business statements?

Yes. Business Advantage checking statements with many deposits and merchant settlements convert normally. If a single statement is longer than 25 pages, it needs the Plus plan, which removes the per-statement page cap.

Will the OFX import into QuickBooks Desktop?

Not through Web Connect. QuickBooks Desktop expects a bank-issued QBO file, which no converter can produce. QuickBooks Online imports the CSV or the OFX. Desktop has no built-in bank CSV import, so Desktop users rely on a separate import utility for the CSV.

Do I give you my Bank of America login?

No. You download or order the statements yourself and upload the files. Nothing connects to your bank account, files stay in your account until you delete them, and they are not used to train models.
