The short answer: ProperSoft's ProperConvert costs $19.99 a month, or $179.99 a year, and converts unlimited statements. MoneyThumb Online costs $24.95 a month and caps you at five statement conversions, with higher tiers at $49.95 for twenty and $99.95 for sixty. If you convert more than about five statements a month, ProperConvert is dramatically cheaper. MoneyThumb earns its price when you need its lender-focused fraud screening, which ProperSoft does not offer at all.

ProperSoft pricing, verified

ProperSoft sells one product now, ProperConvert, on a subscription. This is a change worth knowing about if you looked at ProperSoft a few years ago, when it sold separate one-time licenses per conversion type (PDF2QFX, CSV2QBO, Bank2QBO and so on). Those product names still show up in search results, but the checkout is a single plan that includes everything.

PlanPriceSeatsStatements
Complete Monthly$19.99 per month1 user or deviceUnlimited
Complete Yearly$179.99 per year1 user or deviceUnlimited
Team Complete Monthly$49.98 per month3 users or devicesUnlimited
Team Complete Yearly$449.97 per year3 users or devicesUnlimited

Every tier includes all converters, formats and apps, unlimited pages and statements, and free updates. The team plans add unlimited premium support. There is an enterprise option with custom pricing and terms. ProperSoft publishes a 14 day money back guarantee, and ProperConvert runs on both Windows and macOS.

The trial is real but tightly capped. ProperSoft's own download page states that with a trial license "you can convert up to 10 transactions per file to verify the app can create a correct file". You can see every parsed transaction on screen before buying, so you can confirm the tool reads your bank's layout correctly. You just cannot produce a usable file for a full statement until you pay.

MoneyThumb is structured differently. It runs a cloud product, MoneyThumb Online, in four flavors aimed at Quicken, QuickBooks, general accounting and spreadsheets, plus a legacy line of desktop applications with names like 2qbo Convert Pro and 2qfx Convert Pro. The cloud pricing is published and metered by conversion count.

PlanMonthlyConversions per monthAnnual
Individual$24.955$199.95 for 60 a year
Standard$49.9520$399.95 for 240 a year
Pro$99.9560$799.95 for 800 a year

MoneyThumb advertises roughly a third off for paying annually. It also sells two analysis products by the statement: PDF Insights "as low as $0.50 per statement conversion", and PDF Insights with Thumbprint "as low as $0.65 per statement conversion". Thumbprint is the piece lenders care about, since it screens a submitted PDF for signs of tampering rather than just extracting the numbers.

The desktop line is where the picture gets murky. MoneyThumb publishes the license structure but not the price on the product pages. The three editions are Pro Plus, a lifetime license bundled with one year of the PDF+ scanned image module and currently Windows only; Pro, a lifetime license without PDF+; and Express, a 50 day license that includes PDF+. If you want a desktop license, you will have to go through checkout or contact them to learn what it costs, which is worth factoring into your evaluation time.

Metered versus unlimited is the whole decision

Strip away the feature lists and the pricing models point at two different buyers. ProperConvert charges a flat fee and does not care whether you convert three statements or three hundred. MoneyThumb Online charges less attention to volume up front and then meters you: five conversions on the entry plan, which for a bookkeeper handling a handful of clients is roughly one month of one client's accounts.

Run the arithmetic on a realistic workload. A bookkeeper closing twelve client accounts a month needs twelve conversions. On MoneyThumb Online that is the Standard tier at $49.95 a month, or $399.95 a year. On ProperConvert it is $19.99 a month, or $179.99 a year, with room to convert a hundred more without a price change. That is a difference of about $220 a year for the same twelve statements, and the gap widens with every additional client. Metered pricing only wins when your volume is genuinely low and predictable.

Where each one is actually the right buy

Buy ProperConvert if you convert statements regularly, you work on a Mac as well as a PC, and you want every output format in one price. It is the better value for accountants and bookkeepers with steady monthly volume, and the Windows plus macOS support matters in a profession where the Mac share is high.

Buy MoneyThumb if you are a lender, underwriter or anyone who has to trust a statement someone else handed you. Thumbprint has no equivalent in ProperSoft's line, and detecting a doctored PDF is a different problem from parsing a clean one. It is also reasonable if your volume really is a few statements a month and you prefer a browser tool.

Look at neither if what you need is a specific output file rather than a general purpose converter. Both products are broad, and breadth costs money. If your only requirement is turning statements into an account file your software imports, a focused tool is usually cheaper and faster to learn.

Where this site fits, including where it does not

We should be direct about our own position. This converter reads PDF and scanned image statements and exports OFX, QFX, QIF, CSV and QBO, and it runs in a browser with nothing to install on Windows, Mac or a Chromebook. It handles up to 50 statements in one go and can merge several files into a single extraction, which is the piece that saves real time when a client sends you a year of PDFs. Paid plans start at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed annually at $288 a year, with a free demo covering 15 pages so you can judge accuracy on your own statements before paying.

Where the other two win: ProperConvert is a desktop application, so it works with no internet connection and your files never leave your machine, which some firms require by policy. MoneyThumb's Thumbprint fraud screening is a genuinely different product that we do not compete with. And ProperConvert's flat $19.99 is cheaper than our entry plan if a desktop install is fine with you and you do not need bulk merging or a team seat.

If your destination is specifically an account file rather than a spreadsheet, the bank statement to OFX converter is the direct route, and PDF to QFX produces the Web Connect flavor Quicken expects. Once the transactions are converted and reconciled, turning that ledger into a board ready profit and loss statement is a separate job with its own tooling.

Does MoneyThumb work on a Mac?

MoneyThumb Online runs in a browser, so it works on macOS. The desktop line is more limited: the Pro Plus and Express editions are documented as Windows only, because they include the PDF+ scanned image module. If you are on a Mac and want a desktop application rather than a browser tool, ProperConvert supports both Windows and macOS and is the straightforward choice.

Is there a free version of ProperSoft or MoneyThumb?

Neither has a free tier that produces a usable file. ProperSoft's trial converts only the first 10 transactions per file, which is enough to confirm the parsing is correct but not enough to finish a statement. MoneyThumb's Express edition is a paid 50 day license rather than a free trial. Plan on paying if you want a complete converted file from either vendor.

What is the difference between 2qbo Convert Pro and MoneyThumb Online?

2qbo Convert Pro is the older desktop application you install and license, aimed at producing QBO files for QuickBooks Desktop. MoneyThumb Online is the cloud service you subscribe to, priced by conversion count and available in Quicken, QuickBooks, accounting and spreadsheet variants. The desktop editions carry lifetime licenses; the online product is a recurring subscription. They solve overlapping problems with very different cost structures.

Can these converters read a scanned bank statement?

Only with the right module. MoneyThumb gates scanned image handling behind PDF+, which is bundled with the Pro Plus and Express desktop editions and is Windows only. ProperConvert reads PDFs, and image quality is the usual limiting factor. If a meaningful share of your statements arrive as scans or phone photographs, confirm optical character recognition is included in the tier you are pricing rather than assuming it.

How to decide in ten minutes

Count the statements you convert in a typical month and multiply by twelve. If that number is above about sixty a year, flat rate pricing wins and ProperConvert is the default. If you are below it and you also need to verify that statements have not been altered, MoneyThumb's per statement analysis products are worth pricing out. If you are somewhere in between and mostly want the conversion to be quick and correct without installing anything, try a browser tool on your own statements first, because accuracy on your specific bank's layout matters more than any feature table.

Whichever you pick, test with a real statement from the bank you use most before you commit. Every one of these tools has banks it reads perfectly and banks it struggles with, and a trial that parses your actual file tells you more than a month of comparison reading. For a wider view of the category, the best bank statement converter comparison covers seven tools side by side, and there are dedicated writeups on the MoneyThumb alternative and ProperSoft alternative angles. If you are holding an account file and need it as a readable document instead, the OFX to PDF converter page explains what actually works.
